I just finished reading Fall of Giants by Ken Follett for our January meeting. I was surprised how quickly I read it considering the length, but I just couldn’t put the book down. I can hardly wait for the next installment in the Century trilogy to come out sometime this year.
I didn’t love the writing and some of the interaction between people was very unnatural and a few of the situations were amazing contrived. But the characters and their circumstances were so compelling I really felt like I got to know them and had an emotional attachment. Also found it so interesting and affirming that some of the same feelings and situations that were experienced by the characters during WW I are taking place today as a result of 10 years of war. As my mother always said, “There’s nothing new in the world.” It’s the same old story, just a different time, place, and people. What do you think?
